About Refugee and Immigration Legal Service (RAILS)

The Refugee and Immigration Legal Service (RAILS) is a community legal centre based in South Brisbane. For over 40 years, RAILS has provided free legal assistance, advice and education in immigration and refugee law to people in Queensland. RAILS assists some of the most vulnerable people in the community - asylum seekers, refugees, and migrants in most need, including people who have experienced family violence. RAILS strives to help them find and remain in safety.

THE ROLE

The Executive Assistant reports to the Executive Director/Principal Solicitor (ED/PS) and will assist in planning, prioritising, and managing the administrative needs of the ED/PS so that the executive function is working effectively. You will provide support to ensure that governance requirements are met and that that strategic priorities are achieved. The role will also include secretariat support to the Management Committee by coordinating meetings, papers, and reports as required.

REMUNERATION AND BENEFITS

  • Salary: Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award, Level 4.1, $85,126.08 plus additional 11% superannuation
  • This role is full time or part time (3 days minimum) based on the preference of the successful applicant;

ABOUT YOU

As an experienced Executive Assistant, you will be approachable and provide an inclusive, welcoming environment for staff and external stakeholders as well as have exceptional communication skills. You’ve demonstrated in previous roles that you enjoy step by step processes equally as much as being flexible and problem solving on the spot. You want to make a contribution to a not-for-profit organisation that works with refugees and vulnerable migrants.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR THE ROLE:

  • Advanced computer skills in MS Office Suite;
  • Ability to prioritise competing demands and deadlines ;
  • Coordination and problem solving skills ;
  • High degree of communication competence, discretion and confidentiality.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

  • Experience as an Executive Assistant in a small to medium NGO (or equivalent) with the willingness to learn, grow and adapt to change in the role;
  • Demonstrated the ability to form an efficient one on one working relationship with an Executive Leader;
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to interact with a diverse range of people including sound analytical skills and an ability to work with discretion;
  • High level organisational skills, attention to detail, ability to multitask and set priorities to deliver results and meet deadlines; and
  • Commitment to a fair, respectful and ethical workplace and to social justice.
