RAV is the Lead Agency for headspace in Wonthaggi, Bairnsdale, Sale and outreach.

About the role

Reporting to the Centre Manager, headspace Wonthaggi, this role has primary responsibility for the establishment and maintenance of referral protocols between the identified schools and headspace Wonthaggi, including regular liaison with relevant school staff.

As one of the first contact points for young people accessing the headspace centre or Enhancing Mental Health Services in Schools (EMHSS), the Senior Youth Access Worker will have the skills to establish a positive rapport with a wide range of young people, as well as their family and friends.

In this role you will need to have skills in assessing a young person’s needs, including the undertaking of complex risk assessments and the ability to develop and action a plan to mitigate any identified risk.

This role is located at headspace Wonthaggi and is a permanent, part-time position working Monday, Wednesday, Thursday 10am to 6pm and Tuesday 12noon to 8pm.

The base salary range is $103,451 (pro-rata) per annum.

About you

  • Degree qualified in an allied health discipline including social work, mental health nursing, occupational therapy or psychology.
  • Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA) or current full membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) would be advantageous.
  • Ability and experience to undertake intake and screening activities to determine client needs and to assist clients to access appropriate services.
  • Ability and experience to conduct risk assessments, including suicide and violence risks, and to develop action plans that mitigate these risks.
  • Experience in the youth and/or mental health sector.
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication and computer skills.
  • Knowledge of and relationships with local State Secondary College staff would be advantageous.
