This is a key clinical position working with young people, focused on their mental health and wellbeing in the LGAs of Latrobe and Baw Baw.

About us

Relationships Australia Victoria (RAV) is a secular, community-based, not-for-profit organisation with no religious affiliations who have been providing services to the Victorian community for over 75 years. Our vision is for “positive, respectful, safe and fulfilling relationships for all Australians”.

The Gippsland Youth Enhanced Service (YES) will provide enhanced support to young people 12-25 years of age who are living with, or at risk of severe and complex mental health issues, and who require a greater level of support than what can be provided by GPs, private clinicians, headspace services and school counsellors. Often referred to as the system’s ‘missing middle’, the needs of this cohort of young people are typically considered to be too complex to be met by the primary mental health care system, but not acute enough for the tertiary mental health system. The program will include holistic and high-quality mental health and psycho-social supports that will be continuously adapted to meet the changing needs of young people.

About the role

Reporting to the Manager Youth Mental Health Services, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team to provide therapeutic mental health services for young people. As a first and ongoing point of contact, your responsibilities include building a positive rapport with a wide range of young people and their family/friends. You will be assessing a young person’s needs, including completing biopsychosocial mental health assessments, risk assessments and managing risk presentations during the Intake process and the episode of care. This role is also responsible for participating in regular clinical supervision and review, ensuring delivery of high-quality services.

This position is fixed term until June 2025 with the possibility of permanent employment if funding contracts are renewed. This opportunity is located at our Traralgon centre and is working four (4) days per week, including Tuesday evening shifts and rostered ‘on call’ after hours support to YES clients. The position description title for this role is Mental Health Navigator.

The base salary range is $95k-$102k (pro-rata) per annum.

About you

  • Degree qualified in allied health (social work, mental health nursing, occupational therapy or psychology).
  • Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA) or current full membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
  • Current Drivers License and access to a car.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, prioritising and managing work tasks and deadlines.

We provide

  • Competitive salary packaging.
  • Hybrid and flexible working arrangements.
  • Generous leave and gratis days over Christmas.
  • Professional development, training and career progression.
  • Best practice clinical supervision.
