We are a member-based organisation representing all stages of health and medical research and innovation including universities, medical research institutes, consumer groups, hospitals, health insurers, medical technology, biotechnology and pharmaceuticals.

At Research Australia we take a proactive approach to translating the expertise of our members into better health outcomes through health innovation. As part of this work, we deliver strategy, policy, research and evaluation projects for our sector, members and government.

We are seeking a Research and Policy Consultant to coordinate and implement our strategic policy initiatives. This role leads on projects that provide strategic advice to government and the health and medical research sector. Our ultimate goal is to maximise the impact of Australian health and medical research system for our members, the sector and the broader community.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the General Manager, the Research and Policy Consultant is responsible for:

  • Coordinating and managing strategic projects to agreed timelines, milestones and budgets.
  • Overseeing the preparation and maintenance of all project documentation, governance arrangements and reporting.
  • Responsive, professional service and communication with Research Australia’s clients from across government, industry, academia and the health system.
  • Identifying opportunities for new business through grants and tenders.
  • Working with potential clients to understand the outcomes they are seeking and develop new project offerings that support their goals.
  • Preparing briefing materials, policy briefs and other documents for internal and external executives to support translation and uptake of project findings.

The Research and Policy Consultant works closely with the Government Relations Officer and Head of Policy to promote the right policy settings for a flourishing health and medical research and innovation sector and communicate the needs of our members to government.

ABOUT YOU

To be successful in this role, you will have tertiary qualification in health, social science, policy, politics or a related discipline and a demonstrated understanding of Australian health policy. In addition, you will have:

  • Demonstrated high-level consultation skills with the ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent written communication skills with demonstrated experience writing research reports, policy analysis, briefs and proposals for a wide range of audiences.
  • Significant experience in project management within health, public health, policy, or other relevant area with demonstrated success delivering projects within tight timeframes and budgets.
  • Strong analytical, research and evaluation skills, with demonstrated ability to translate quantitative and qualitative data into implementable insights and policy.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite is required.

Research Australia is a flexible workplace and applicants seeking both full-time and part-time work are welcome to apply. Some interstate travel is required at times. Flexible location and interstate applicants are welcome to apply. The role is a combination of working from home and from the office. Melbourne is the preferred location but suitable candidates from other locations will be considered.
