The opportunity

Riverina Medical & Dental Aboriginal Corporation (RivMed) is seeking a Permanency Support Program (PSP) Preservation Team Leader to lead and nurture our growing geographically dispersed team.  This position is based in Griffith in the western Riverina region.  The primary goal of our PSP Preservation program is to increase the number of children who can remain safely at home with their families, be healthy, thrive and have improved lives over the long-term.

The Role

RIVMED provides Permanency Support (PSP) programs across the Riverina, with the goal to do everything possible to prevent children and young people from entering or re-entering care and to support individuals to find a safe and permanent home.

The PSP Preservation Team Leader is responsible to the CEO, Manager of Preservation Services, relevant program funding bodies and general community for ensuring the provision of culturally appropriate, safe program delivery in all areas relevant to the role, in advocacy of the social, emotional, physical and spiritual wellbeing of children and young people involved with the PSP Preservation program scope.

The PSP Preservation Team Leader will provide day to day leadership to case workers, monitoring the delivery of services within the PSP Preservation Program and engage regularly with the Manager of Preservation Services.  As team Leader you may still be required to carry reduced caseload.

The key objectives of the role include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensure the PSP Preservation program complies with all legislative, funding body, and stakeholder requirements.
  • Monitor staff compliance with program goals, data entry, and reporting timelines, ensuring staff complete accurate records and comply with RivMed policies.
  • Lead staff in applying Aboriginal case management principles and ensure casework is culturally sensitive.
  • Collaborate with staff to make informed decisions for children and families.
  • Supervise staff in their use of brokerage funds and ensure financial information is provided timely to the finance team.
  • Contribute to the effective operation of the team by supporting colleagues through clear and effective communication, sharing relevant information, and working cooperatively with others.
  • Participate in supervision sessions with the Manager of Preservation Services and supervise monthly meetings with program staff.
  • Identify and coordinate staff training to ensure best practices.

About you

To be successful in the role you will be able to demonstrate you meet the Selection Criteria below:

  • Aboriginality - This is an identified Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander position and candidates will be required to provide confirmation of Aboriginality with their application. (NB: applicants race is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised by Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, NSW)
  • Minimum qualification of Cert IV in Community Services, or Community Welfare, or similar relevant qualification (or wiliness to undertake training to obtain). Qualification in Social Work or Psychology will be highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing or leading teams in a child protection, social work, or related field.
  • Strong understanding of Aboriginal case management principles and cultural competency in working with Aboriginal families.
  • Experience in case management, particularly in preventing children from entering the care system.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, supervise staff, and ensure compliance with legislative requirements.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with experience in staff supervision, performance appraisal, and training.
  • Ability to engage with families, extended kin, and relevant external agencies to ensure holistic care.
  • Strong administrative and management skills, including budget tracking and reporting.
  • Knowledge of Work Health and Safety, Child Protection, and mandatory reporting requirements.
  • Current drivers licence and willingness to travel for work related purposes.
