Everyone who works within Roses in the Ocean has a lived experience of suicide which is defined as ‘having experienced suicidal thoughts, survived a suicide attempt, cared for someone through suicidal crisis, or been bereaved by suicide.’

About the role

This newly created, full-time opportunity will be essential in driving the implementation and providing operational leadership of the Peer CARE Companion in Community services across Queensland.

The role is pivotal in developing key partnerships and processes to ensure adherence to the program model and the ongoing professional development of Peer CARE Companion volunteers. Providing a lived experience leadership approach, this role will be responsible for the recruitment of a skilled and values-aligned volunteer workforce.

While this is a remote, work from home opportunity, you must be located in Queensland. There is a requirement to work flexible times including some evenings and weekends (time in lieu arrangements negotiable) and there will be some intrastate travel required to carry out the duties of this role.

To succeed in this role, there are some essentials you’ll need:

  • A lived experience of suicide and an understanding of the impact it has on families, workplaces, friends and communities.
  • Demonstrated experience in Service Delivery team leadership.
  • Experience in start-up and/or scaling of projects is highly desirable.
  • Experience in overseeing the Coordination of a volunteer workforce, developing and implementing new processes and procedures.
  • Proven track record in developing meaningful partnerships with wide range of stakeholders to support the project.
  • Experience in managing competing priorities, complex tasks, coordinating activities and team members.
  • High-level written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate and liaise effectively and sensitively at all levels, both internally and externally.
  • Demonstrated capacity to maintain confidentiality and professional standards of behaviour in difficult and sensitive circumstances.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels.
  • Professionally presented with outstanding interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, self-manage and meet deadlines.
  • Capacity to work autonomously and remotely, while maintaining high levels of connection and accountability.
  • Strong knowledge of Volaby, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Office 365, Monday.com and SharePoint. Experience in start-up and/or scaling of projects is highly desirable.
  • A current Working with Children Check or ability to apply
  • Willingness to undertake a national criminal history check

The following training will be provided as part of the induction process:

  • Completion of Peer CARE Companion workshop.
  • Suicide intervention skills training
  • Cultural awareness training
  • LGBTQIASB+ training
