About the role
We are currently seeking enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join our Animal Care team in Wangaratta on a casual basis. As an Animal Attendant, you will be responsible for providing excellent day to day care for the animals in our shelter and providing excellent customer service to members of the public.
This diverse and interesting role will challenge and reward you by providing you with the following responsibilities and duties:
- Contribute to the daily management of animals of any species and across all parts of the shelter in a professional and caring manner, including transporting animals as required;
- Observing, documenting and reporting health and behaviour concerns of animals in our care, and supporting Veterinarians when required;
- Providing a high level of service to customers in the adoption, surrender and reclaiming of animals to enhance the reputation of RSPCA Victoria within the local community;
- Assist members of the public with general enquires as required;
- Ensure all necessary documentation relating to the management of animals are recorded accurately and in accordance with RSPCA Victoria procedures and timeframes.
- Contribute to a positive and inclusive work environment by effectively communicating and working collaboratively with peers across all departments, including providing support and direction to volunteers.
Skills and Experience
- Previous experience in an animal care role is highly desirable, including basic knowledge of animal anatomy, behaviour, disease recognition and safe handling;
- Experience in a customer service or retail sales role is also highly desirable;
- Ability to work in a fast paced and challenging work environment, whilst showing great care and compassion to the animals in our shelter;
- Demonstrated experience working collaboratively in a team environment;
- The ability to work rotating rosters including weekends and public holidays;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Must be willing to work across all areas of the shelter;
- Positive team member and a keen attitude for sharing knowledge and helping others;
- Strong time management skills;
- Basic computer skills;
Recruitment Requirements
- Holds or is willing to complete a Certificate II in Animal Studies (or equivalent) will be highly regarded;
- Current and valid Victorian drivers licence
- Current tetanus vaccination
- Current and valid COVID-19 vaccination (primary course) records, unless a medical exemption applies
- The ability to work rotating rosters including weekends and public holidays
