About Us

SAACCON is the South Australian Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation Network and was established in 2020 to provide Closing the Gap advice, recommendations and guidance to the Coalition of Peaks and the South Australian Government.

We work in partnership with the government, other Aboriginal community-controlled organisations and Aboriginal communities. Supporting our partnership with the South Australian Government we have a new position as Policy Officer who will report to the Manager of Policy and Projects.

The Role

This  policy and project role has been established to support implementation of the Recommendations of the Royal Commission into Early Childhood Education and Care. The successful applicant will develop and implement Early Years reforms for Aboriginal children in line with the recommendations of the Royal Commission in partnership with the Office of Early Childhood Development.

About You

If you are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and have;

  • Tertiary qualifications or minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar role
  • Ability to provide cultural expertise on early childhood education and family matters
  • An awareness of the Closing the Gap Framework
  • A demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
  • High level interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills to liaise, negotiate, develop and sustain strong working relationships and
  • Proven ability to determine priorities, meet deadlines and use initiative in responding to both external and internal demands

Your Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Undertake significant project work to implement Early Years reform for Aboriginal children in SA in line with the recommendations of the Royal Commission into Early Childhood Education and Care.
  • Co-design an Aboriginal workforce strategy with the office for Early Childhood Education Development (OECD)
  • Undertake widespread consultation in metro and regional areas
  • Develop close working relationships with the OECD and Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations 
  • Must be willing to travel and have a current driver’s license

This position is an Aboriginal identified position as you will be required to provide Aboriginal cultural expertise in the co-design of an implementation plan, consultation, planning and workforce.

This position is funded until December 2025.
