Day-Day Duties:

Community Builders are integral to nurturing a vibrant, supportive online community, focusing primarily on grassroots work within the SANE Forums, and additionally on SANE’s social media channels. This role involves direct interaction with members, facilitating discussions and events, providing support, identifying member needs, and contributing insights for service improvement. Community Builders act as the frontline of community engagement, working with the Forums Service Lead and with Community Guide volunteers to enhance the forum experience for individuals with lived experience of complex mental health conditions, carers, family and friends.

  • Actively monitor forum discussions during contracted hours to ensure they are consistent with community guidelines.
  • Enforce the community guidelines consistently, taking appropriate actions such as removing or editing content that violates guidelines, communicating with members about actions taken, and temporarily or permanently banning users in severe cases.
  • Read, acknowledge and respond to comments on SANE’s social media channels, providing supportive responses and referrals to relevant services as necessary.
  • Implement crisis intervention strategies when immediate risks are identified, including escalating to appropriate emergency services or mental health support providers in accordance with established protocols.
  • Initiate the escalation of these cases to the Forums Service Lead for detailed triage and assessment, ensuring that members receive seamless and warm referrals to other suitable services for the support they need.
  • Contribute to the development of support plans for high-care members, in collaboration with the Forums Service Lead.
  • Leverage Community Guide volunteers to identify and respond to the needs of forum members, offer support, encouragement, and resources.
  • Champion the Community Guide program on the forums and scout for potential new volunteers.
  • Plan, organise and facilitate smaller in-forum events such as live Q&A sessions, themed discussion threads, and interactive activities to engage and support the community.
  • Contribute to service effectiveness by identifying issues, enhancements, opportunities, and member needs to feed into strategic development and operational improvements.

Experience/Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a community engagement role, ideally with specific experience within a mental health context.
