SANE

ABOUT SANE AUSTRALIA

SANE Australia is the leading organisation making a real difference for the five million people affected by complex mental health issues nationally.

Australians affected by complex mental health issues – such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, complex trauma, and severe depression and anxiety – experience major barriers in accessing quality, affordable support, and face high levels of stigma and discrimination.

SANE is committed to changing this reality through its digital and phone counselling, peer support services, arts programming and services, and advocacy and research programs.

SANE is a values-led organisation that offers workplace flexibility, a supportive, friendly team, and the opportunity to help Australians affected by complex mental issues live long and fulfilling lives, free from stigma and discrimination.

We are driven by our values of Respect, Innovation, Celebration, Responsibility and Collaboration.

Staff at SANE Australia benefit from generous not-for-profit salary packaging options, an employee assistance program, and additional days pro-rata of paid Reflection Leave per year after completing 12 months of service.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Working with a dynamic leadership team, this is a unique opportunity to excel in a role which raises awareness of complex mental health issues, which promotes best-practice media reporting, and which builds strong relationships with our lived experience community to help share and spotlight their stories.

Utilising outstanding project management skills, this role oversees the delivery of SANE’s StigmaWatch program to educate on and foster safe and responsible media reporting relating to mental ill-health and suicide, and to reduce stigma related to these issues in the media.

This is a part-time role (three days per week) contract role, and would ideally suit someone starting out in their media, communications or PR career.

ABOUT YOU

  • You enjoy seeing your work reach millions through the media, and are driven by identifying story opportunities that align with strategic objectives
  • You have strong program administration and reporting skills – and enjoy taking ownership of projects and tracking their impact
  • Your written communications skills are outstanding and, creative by nature, you thrive on developing content which promotes program needs, objectives and outcomes
  • While not necessarily from a mental health background, you understand SANE’s vision and mission, and you can see how this will motivate you to help reach and support SANE’s communities with their complex mental health journeys and needs.
