Youth Specialist - Youth Justice - Kununurra

Save The Children

In this varied and challenging role, you'll work in our intensive youth mentoring programs in the beautiful Kimberley town of Kununurra. You'll support young people to develop lasting links with the community and encourage active engagement with the services we are proud to deliver.

54 reasons is Australia's leading child rights organisation - no ordinary not-for-profit.

Proudly part of the Save the Children Australia Group and global movement, we're here to make sure that everyone understands their rights. So that children and young people have their rights met and thrive, in all their diversity.
We champion the children, young people and families we work with. We are inspired by the curiosity and creativity of children and motivated by the love of those who care for them.

With the child's voice at the centre, we provide quality services to children and their caregivers, advocating with them so that children develop, learn, and are connected, safe and confident. Our people are proudly local, reflective of the communities we serve - in every state and territory, and across regions, remote areas and capital cities.

Where you come in:

In this full time permanent position, based in our Kununurra office, you'll work in partnership with local youth justice stakeholders to support targeted young offenders aged 10-17 to reduce offending. As part of our Kununurra Case Work Team, you'll report to our Team Leader.

You will make an impact by:

  • Engaging and building rapport with at-risk children, young people, families and community members
  • Supporting young people to increase safety, positive community engagement, life skills and cultural connection
  • Providing practical support, mentoring and advocacy for young people and their families (as required) with complex needs
  • Collaborating with government and non-government services to work towards common goals
  • Providing timely referrals and promoting/facilitating access to other services

Does this sound like you?

You're a highly flexible youth worker who is calm under pressure and loves to have positive impact working with traumatised youth. You have plenty of energy and a can-do attitude, which will help you make long-lasting relationships with disengaged youth and their families. You have empathy, compassion and an infectious enthusiasm for your job.

This role requires:

  • Demonstrated skills and experience in working with young people, in particular Aboriginal young people
  • Demonstrated experience in case management
  • A minimum of a Diploma in Youth Work, Psychology, Social Work (or a related field), or significant equivalent experience
  • Driver's licence
