- We are looking for 2 people with intellectual disability to help us run our new project called Community for Everyone.
This is an important role that reports to the Project Lead and the Executive Officer of Side By Side Advocacy.
Side By Side Advocacy is a not for profit advocacy organisation in Parramatta. We recognise that people with intellectual disability experience particular barriers to having their voices heard and needs met and for that reason we specialise in advocacy for people with an intellectual disability.
The Project
We have started a new project called ‘Community for Everyone’. The project goes for 2 years. The project aims to increase the social inclusion and participation of people with intellectual disability in their local area. The project will do this by connecting people with intellectual disability with volunteer social connectors who share similar interests.
What you will do in the role includes:
- Be part of a team that designs resources and training materials
- Help train volunteer social connectors
- Speak to groups in the community so they know about the project
- Help people understand what gets in the way of people with intellectual disability being included in their communities
- Share your thoughts about what is going well and what we need to do differently in the project
- Assist with the building of networks
- Come to meetings
- Help us plan and run the project
Experience and skills you need to have includes:
- Public speaking experience
- Able to use Zoom or Teams
- Experience sharing your ideas about barriers to inclusion
- Experience working as part of a team

The successful candidate will have:
- The right to work in Australia
- Willingness to complete and provide a satisfactory Police Check and Working with Children Check
- Be happy to have their photo taken for publicity material and reports
- Be able to travel to our office in Parramatta
- Be willing to travel in the Parramatta, Ryde, Gosford and Newcastle areas.
This role is for a person with intellectual disability.
Side By Side Advocacy is based in Parramatta.
The role will mostly be in the Ryde and Parramatta areas.
The project ends 30 June 2026.
