About SECL

For 54 years, we have been working alongside multicultural communities to offer trust place-based and people centred services focused on social and financial inclusion.

We have partnered with 200+ organisations including governments, communities and business to deliver culturally responsive, coordinated, and effective services to meet client s' needs.

SECL always put the community at the heart of our work and is dedicated to finding and closing the gaps that affect our communities. In the past year, we reached 27,577 people and families across our programs and services including:

  • 10,821 who needed emergency relief
  • 3,881 young people in our Youth Links programs
  • 1,000 who needed support with bills, loans and fines
  • 3,300 through community outreach.

Position Overview

As a member of the Board of Directors, you will play a key role in guiding the strategic direction and governance of the organisation. This voluntary role is ideal for individuals with expertise in areas such as management, finance, fundraising, legal, marketing and community development. We are looking for passionate individuals who are eager to contribute their skills and leadership support the vision of our organisation: "Every person counts, every system fair'.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic oversight and governance to the organisation
  • Participate in 7-8 meetings and contribute to decision-making processes
  • Support the organisation's vision and purpose to advocate for its goals within the community
  • Assist with fundraising, networking, and partnership development
  • Ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards
  • Collaborate with the CEO and fellow board members to drive the organisation's success.

Qualifications and experience

  • Experience in community service, government, corporate sector, philanthropy, non-profit governance, or a related field
  • Knowledge of a director's responsibilities
  • Lived experience in our program areas is welcome
  • Strong leadership, communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to commit time and energy to monthly meetings and organisational initiatives
  • Passion for community development and making a positive social impact.
