We are looking for a passionate person to deliver a range of events and support the growth and redesign of the Superstars of STEM program.

About the role

The Program and Events Officer will support the Director of Membership & Engagement by coordinating and executing a range of events aimed at enhancing STA’s engagement with our members and stakeholders across the science and technology sector. This role involves planning, organising, and managing events, from conception through to completion, ensuring they align with the STA’s strategic objectives and enhance its visibility and reputation.

The Program and Events Officer will also work with the program manager to provide efficient, professional, and confidential administrative assistance to the Superstars of STEM program and the Science Policy Fellows Alumni program.

We are looking for a person who is highly organised, demonstrates good judgement, and has strong relationship building skills. You will be supported to grow and lead in this role.

This is a new full-time position based in our Canberra office.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute events including Science Meets Parliament, Parliamentary Friends of Science, seminars, networking sessions, and other stakeholder engagement activities.
  • Provide proactive and well organised administrative support including but not limited to correspondence, database management and meeting coordination.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for program and event participants, sponsors, vendors, and staff, to ensure events and programs are delivered as planned.
  • Assist with re-designing the Superstars of STEM program, including identifying new training facilitators and recruiting mentors for the program.
  • Grow relationships with partner organisations to develop opportunities for program participants in schools, on stage and in the media.
  • Other duties as required.

Selection criteria:

  • Strong event management and logistics experience;
  • Outstanding attention to detail and time management, and an ability to juggle competing priorities and respond quickly and professionally as issues unfold;
  • Strong relationship building skills with the ability to nurture successful relationships with a range of stakeholders;
  • Excellent administration skills or an interest in building them, including database management, correspondence, and event management platforms;
  • Dedication and willingness to assist other staff across the STA team;
  • A passion for the STEM sector and a commitment to the principles of diversity, fairness, and equal opportunity.
