About MHV

Mental Health Victoria Ltd (MHV) is a not-for-profit charity and the peak body for Victoria’s mental health sector, with a vision for a society where everyone has equitable access to world-class mental health services. We are a trusted voice that works with consumers, carers, clinical and support services, medical colleges, professional associations, unions, Victoria Police, emergency services, universities across Victoria’s mental health sector.

MHV continues to advocate with priority the full and effective implementation of the recommendations from the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System, including prioritising system needs and ensuring that those reforms, including the operation of the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022 (Vic), live up to the spirit and purpose of those recommendations.

Following organisational transformation in 2023-2024, MHV seek a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead MHV and the wider sector through the next era of reform and accountability for the design and operation of the mental health sector in Victoria.

The role

The CEO will report to an engaged and committed Board, and lead a talented team, passionate about mental health reform. You’ll be responsible for the efficient and effective performance of MHV’s operations and key relationships, including with the highest levels of the Victorian Government. Some key priorities will include:

  • Extending Mental Health Victoria’s range and scope of services and funding (including grants), developing higher value service offerings and deepening and creating new partnerships
  • Driving policy initiatives and reforms within the mental health sector
  • Ensuring that the voices of people with lived and living experience are elevated and meaningfully heard and understood within the co-design of mental health system
  • Leveraging relationships across the sector, driving alignment of common issues to create strategic opportunities for new revenue and/or funding streams.
  • Becoming the ‘trusted voice’ of the mental health sector to Government and key policymakers.

What MHV is looking for?

An experienced leader with a deep commitment to mental health issues and a passion for driving positive change. Experience and knowledge within the mental health sector is highly desirable, but not essential. You’ll have a relevant tertiary qualification, and ideally experience within a similar role. You’ll have a wide range of skills including some of the following:

  • Leadership: Proven experience in executive leadership roles, preferably within the healthcare or non-profit sector, with a high level of emotional intelligence to lead a team effectively and foster a supportive work environment
  • Strategic Planning: Strong ability to develop, implement, and evaluate strategic plans that align with organisational goals
  • Advocacy: Demonstrated success in advocacy and public policy initiatives, particularly related to mental health
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Excellent skills in building and maintaining relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Financial Acumen: Proficiency in financial management, including budgeting, financial planning, and fundraising
  • Communication: Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate MHV’s vision and goals
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address complex challenges
  • Innovative Thinking: Ability to think creatively and implement innovative solutions to advance mental health services and advocacy

Key to your success will be your ability to establish productive working relationships across the organisation and meaningfully contribute to the mental health sector with real purpose.
