Join Our Team as a Peer Worker at headspace Campbelltown and Use Your Lived Experience of Disordered Eating Challenges & Personal Recovery to Inspire and Empower Young People on Their Journey to Mental Health Recovery! This is a fixed term part-time role (60.40 hours/fortnight) until 30 June 2025. 

About the Program

headspace provides early intervention mental health services to young people aged 12-25. Primary Care Eating Disorder Supports Program (PCEDSP) aims to support young people predominately aged (but not limited to) between 12-25 years old, who present with food related anxiety or an eating disorder along with their families/carers.
 
PCEDSP provides a holistic approach that provides wrap around support to young individuals, their families, and carers, through a multidisciplinary care team. Provide early intervention to these individuals, identifying and effectively treating the early onset of symptoms, while also managing those who have long standing symptoms and an existing diagnosis of an eating disorder.

About the Role

The Peer Worker in the PCEDSP will be someone who has lived experience of mental health challenges and experience of disordered eating challenges, personal recovery, and service use and a willingness to use experience to role model recovery to support others. 

You will:

  • Create a space of hope, optimism, and inclusion for people who experience mental distress and food related anxiety or disordered eating.
  • Engage with stakeholders and medical specialists to enhance their capacity to better support young people accessing the Primary Care Eating Disorders Support Service.
  • Provide soft, supported, entry for young people and their families into accessing the Primary Care Eating Disorders Support Service.

Your skills and experience

  • Certificate IV in Mental Health or Peer Work, or Diploma of Community Services.
  • Lived experience of mental health challenges and experience of disordered eating challenges, personal recovery, and service use and a willingness to use experience to role model recovery to support others.
  • Willingness to purposefully share their personal experience to support others and to contribute to change.
  • Understanding of and a commitment to the principles of peer support; inclusive of a recovery-focused approach.
  • Clear awareness about self-care and skills for prioritising self-care.
  • Ability to manage workflow and within clear timeframes.
  • Ability to exercise personal responsibility and work as part of team, with the support and guidance of the Manager.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in all interactions with stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy to use Microsoft programs and the capability to learn other applications.
  • A current driver licence and access to a fully insured vehicle.
