ABOUT THE ROLE

The headspace program’s mission is to deliver improvements in the mental health, social wellbeing and economic participation of young Australian’s aged 12 – 25. This includes providing funding to improve services for young people who may be experiencing mental health and/or drug and alcohol issues and the latest information about these important health issues for young people.

The Youth Access Clinician is responsible for effectively engaging, screening, assessing and coordinating the care of young people aged between 12–25 years with diverse mental health, general health, vocational or drug/alcohol service needs who are referred to or access headspace Campbelltown within an early intervention framework.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  1. Relevant Tertiary Qualifications (Allied Health or counselling Disciplines)
  2. Fully registered health professional with mental health experience: AHPRA for Registered Nurse, Occupational therapist, Clinical/registered Psychologist or Provisional Psychologist; AASW for Social Workers; ACA or PACFA for Counsellors and Psychotherapists.
  3. Experience in the provision of clinical mental health services for young people including engaging and providing care to young people ages 12 – 25 years who have mental health, alcohol and other drug problems.
  4. High level of initiative and judgement in handling clinical issues.
  5. Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal), problem solving, advocacy and negotiation skills including the ability to consult, liaise and negotiate with young people, family/carers, workers and other agencies.
  6. Demonstrated ability to undertake assessment/screening of clients and their carers and the ability to develop understanding/knowledge of determining care needs and assist clients to access necessary services.
  7. Ability to make clinical decisions, systems decisions and to triage.
  8. Current knowledge of the health needs of young people and the local youth, mental health and alcohol and other drug agencies and networks.
  9. Competence regarding clinical information systems, software packages and willingness to be trained and implement MDS, the headspace data collection and registration tool. Other software packages i.e. Blue Chip and Medical director.
  10. Experience working in a multidisciplinary team and constructive working relationships with young people, family/carers and other agencies.
