Shine Connections

Originally named Shine Cambodia, Shine was established in 2016 with a clear mission: to ensure a community undergoing rapid change and financial difficulty could receive support in the hopes that the emerging generation of young people were safe, happy, and be given the opportunity to break the poverty cycle.

Our change of name to Shine Connections recognises that while our work continues in Cambodia, we've grown to be something bigger. Shine Connections is about building communities around the world that are interconnected by their shared vision to create brighter futures for the next generation through education and social change.

Shine Connections currently has two main programs:

Shine Cambodia supports and empowers the local community of Otres, Cambodia to break the poverty cycle by providing education and community support services.

Shine Impact is an online community and platform run by a group of young activists and academics in Melbourne which educates, connects and mobilises youth to enact positive social change through grassroots efforts and real-life action. Shine Impact engages in double impact through our members engaging in their own social change, while our social enterprise structure sees our profits going towards Shine Cambodia.

Board Positions

The role of Director involves monthly board meetings to steer the direction of Shine Connection's mission internationally. Directors will use their time, skill and experience to implement the strategic plan, and are encouraged to use their time to be part of working groups to help oversee our community programs.

The Board Secretary will play a critical role in fostering communication and diligence through proper management of important meeting minutes and Shine Connection rules. The Secretary will be responsible for maintaining accurate documentation and meeting legal requirements.

The Treasurer is charged with overseeing the management and reporting of Shine Connections' finances. Along with the responsibilities of being a Board Member who assists in implementing the strategic plan of Shine Connections, the Treasurer is focused on reviewing internally prepared financial reports and evaluating financial policies and procedures.
