A vacancy is available for an Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Prevention Coordinator to commence in our Bunbury office on a permanent full time basis.

The core of the AOD Prevention Coordinator role is in building relationships with organisations and communities by helping them find ways of preventing negative impacts of alcohol and other drug related harms in communities, families and individuals of the South West. Consisting of liaising and collaborating with a range of key stakeholders including government and non-government agencies, professionals, community groups and individuals on AOD prevention activities and initiatives, this is very much about community development and capacity building – supporting communities, group and organisations to develop and implement their own AOD prevention activities.

As the AOD Prevention Coordinator you are energetic and comfortable being out and about in the South West community at events, activities and meetings, in addition to presenting education, training and information sessions. Your demonstrated networking and relationship building skills complement a strategic and responsive approach in harnessing energies from the different community and groups of the South West for the common goal of preventing AOD related harms.

This is a permanent full time position of 76 hours per fortnight and presents as a fabulous career opportunity to make a defining positive impact in our community.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A willingness and capacity to embrace the Mission and Values of St John of God Health Care.
  • A tertiary qualification in health promotion, public health or health/social science.
  • Demonstrated working understanding of public health prevention, including the ability to develop, implement and evaluate community-based prevention initiatives.
  • Knowledge of the effects of AOD on individuals, families and communities in Western Australia.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with health and other community groups on education, health promotion and community action initiatives.
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to consult, coordinate and liaise with a range of stakeholders in various contexts.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in successfully engaging with Aboriginal people in a culturally secure way.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing, managing and evaluating public health programs, especially related to AOD issues.
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing, influencing and reviewing policies, strategies, and procedures as they relate to public health issues. Highly developed conceptual and analytical skills including the ability to negotiate solutions to complex problems in a collaborative setting.
  • Possession of a current 'C' Class driver's license and a willingness to travel through the South West region.
