Southside Justice is an independent, not-for-profit community legal centre offering free legal support to people on low incomes living in Melbourne’s inner southeast and statewide for specialised programs.
Southside Justice exists to enhance access to justice for people and communities disproportionately affected by systemic and structural inequity. We collaborate with partners to deliver early and integrated legal services to people facing the greatest need
Southside Justice is seeking a dedicated and experienced professional to lead a new project aimed at strengthening the response to family violence. Funded by the Victorian Legal Services Board + Commissioner (VLSBC) for three years, this role will manage and drive the integration of legal services into the Alexis: Family Violence Response Model (A-FVRM), a well-established initiative addressing family violence-related interactions with police and social services.
The A-FVRM, established in 2014, is a partnership between The Salvation Army and Victoria Police, currently operating in Melbourne’s inner-south and Gippsland. In this role, the Project Manager and Senior Lawyer will work closely with key partners, including The Salvation Army, Victoria Police and Gippsland Community Legal Service* (CLS), while contributing to the project’s governance through an Advisory Group and ensuring its progress is evaluated independently by RMIT University.
This is a unique opportunity to lead an initiative that will make a lasting impact on families experiencing violence.
We are looking for a qualified lawyer with a current Victorian practicing certificate (or eligibility) and preferably at least five years post-admission experience. A background in family violence is essential, with additional experience in family law, criminal law, or child protection highly desirable.
You’ll need to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of family violence dynamics, including their impact on individuals and families, and an awareness of how legal and support services intersect. Strong project management abilities, such as coordinating multiple stakeholders, meeting deadlines and managing competing priorities, are highly valued.
A position description is attached.
