The Smith Family is a children’s education charity that helps young Australians experiencing disadvantage to create better futures for themselves through harnessing the power of education.

We are seeking an experienced Data Governance Lead to join our organisation. Reporting to the Group Manager, Data & AI and working alongside dedicated, energised, and passionate team members, this role will play a crucial role in overseeing our organisation's data governance practices. You will be responsible for ensuring that our data assets are managed with precision and care, aligning with our strategic objectives and compliance requirements. About our role

You will be responsible for:

  • Develop, implement, and enhance data governance policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Ensure compliance with data privacy laws and regulations.
  • Define and maintain information and data standards and data quality rules to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and integrity of data.
  • Support data owners to classify data, based on sensitivity and importance and establish security measures to protect sensitive information from unauthorised access or breaches.
  • Lead and mentor a team of data professionals.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to promote data governance best practices.
  • Implement mechanisms for monitoring and continuously improving data quality, including data profiling, validation, and cleansing processes to protect the organisation's assets and minimise risk.
  • Building relationships and credibility with key stakeholders and colleagues throughout The Smith Family and proactively work to champion Data Enablement initiatives.

About you

As well as passion for community, you will bring the following:

  • Strong project management experience leading data related projects.
  • Strategic thinking with a bachelor’s degree in information management, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Several years of experience in data governance, with a proven track record of success.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to drive organisational change.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
  • You will have highly developed stakeholder management and influencing skills.
  • The ability to articulate complex concepts in both oral and written communication for a range of audiences.
  • Have or willing to obtain an employee Working With Children's Check.
