About the role

The Data Platform Manager will lead the continued evolution of our Data Platform, driving its architecture, security, team leadership, cost efficiency, and strategic growth. This pivotal role ensures high availability, disaster recovery, and cutting-edge innovation, while steering the platform’s roadmap towards a dynamic, scalable and resilient future. You will work to ensure our data is relevant and key to business decisions for The Smith Family’s team members, delivering positive outcomes for our students and families, supporters and volunteers.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Engage, coach and inspire a highly skilled team of data engineers; to ensure capacity and skills align with the evolving needs of the organisation
  • Strong technical leadership and strategic decision making around the Data and Analytics platforms
  • Seamlessly integrate Agile methodologies with DevOps practices to streamline development and deployment cycles.
  • Oversee and approve platform budget, architecture, quality, security, and supplier implementation to guarantee optimal performance and alignment
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, taking a lead role in project management activities when required.

Skills and Experience

As well as passion for community, you will bring the following:

  • Relevant tertiary level qualification (Information technology/Data Sciences or equivalent) with a successful track record (3+ years) in a leadership role, delivering strategically aligned business outcomes
  • Excellent data and analytics skills (7+ years in data/ETL development using the MS SQL Server stack)
  • Strong hands-on experience with cloud data platforms such as Azure Synapse, Spark pools, PaaS SQL, Data lakes and Data Factory
  • Experience with Analytics and ML applications Azure Open AI, Python etc.
  • Demonstrated strong experience with modern cloud technologies, preferably in MS Azure.
  • Commitment to learning, developing skills and sharing knowledge; with proven expertise coaching and mentoring teams in best practice
  • Executive-level communication, with the ability to influence and foster collaboration, respecting individual differences and dignity
  • Experience in the education or similar sector is desirable.
