The Smith Family is a children’s education charity that helps young Australians experiencing disadvantage to create better futures for themselves through harnessing the power of education.

We are seeking an experienced Family Partnership Coordinator/ Administrative Support Worker, Indigenous Advancement Strategy to join our organisation. Reporting to the Team Leader, Learning for Life and working alongside dedicated, energised, and passionate team members, you will split your time between managing and delivering one of our most valuable programs – Learning for Life (LfL) as well as supporting our Indigenous Advancement Strategy (IAS). The role involves planning and implementing The Smith Family Scholarships and taking a strength based, family led practice approach to support stronger educational outcomes for students.

You will maintain key relationships with a range of stakeholders, including families on the program, partner schools, community groups and volunteers. You will use your exceptional time management skills to support the IAS Engagement Worker with planning and organising events, community meetings and administration duties. Enjoy the flexibility and variety of this temporary part time position, working 15 hours per week until end of January 2025.

About our role

You will be responsible for:

  • Liaising with Schools and Principals on the progress of student referrals to the program
  • Enhancing relationships with key people in Schools to positively impact on attendance and school completion rates
  • Using a strengths-based approach to build family's capacity to support their children's education
  • Taking a family led practice approach to maximise school attendance and support key transitions
  • Ensuring excellent database management and administration support for students
  • Recording data, preparing reports, planning, organising, and managing events for IAS.
  • Engaging and building relationships with our Koorie Community.

About you

As well as passion for community, you will bring the following:

  • High-level interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong understanding of cultural safety and issues that impact our Koorie Community.
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills (including computer literacy, data entry and time management)
  • Demonstrated experience in establishing and maintaining relevant community partnerships
  • Proven experience in working with families taking a family partnership approach
  • Hold a current driver’s licence
  • Have or willing to obtain an employee Working With Children's Check
