We are now looking for a dynamic and experienced leader to join our Senior Leadership Team as the Head of State and Territory Operations.

About the role

As the Head of State and Territory Operations, you will play a pivotal role in strengthening the impact of The Smith Family’s work with students and families across Australia. This is an opportunity to steer the development and implementation of efficient processes, shape the operational framework, and provide strategic leadership to our Operations Team, including VIEW (Voice, Interests and Education of Women) Clubs nationally.

Your leadership will drive continuous improvement across all operational activities, ensuring that our programs meet the needs of the communities that we support nationwide while optimising resources to achieve our strategic outcomes. As a member of our Executive Team you will be at the forefront of our mission to make a difference in the lives of young Australians, and playing a key role in guiding the growth strategies that underpin our future success.

You will be responsible for:

  • Operational Leadership - Lead and manage a high-performing national operations team in delivering high quality and effective program outcomes. Lead services delivery processes ensuring excellence, compliance and contribute to the development of program strategies.
  • People Leadership - Lead and foster a culture of continuous learning, high performance, and inclusivity within the team. Lead succession planning and ensure the effective implementation of people-related policies and procedures.
  • Strategic Development - Contribute to the development and execution of the organisation’s strategic plan. Align service delivery to various contexts across States and Territories nationally, including identifying opportunities for innovation and operational improvements.
  • Stakeholder Engagement – Represent the organisation at external forums, and work with the Operations leadership team to maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, schools, community organisations, and partners.

Skills and Experience

You are a seasoned leader with over ten years of senior leadership experience in the non-profit or human services sector. You bring a proven track record in operational management, strategic planning, and stakeholder engagement. Your strong financial acumen, combined with exceptional leadership and communication skills, makes you a natural fit for this role.

You have experience leading multidisciplinary teams, managing large-scale operations, and driving organisational change. You are adept at navigating complex systems and have a demonstrated ability to inspire and motivate others.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline essential, ideally with relevant post-graduate qualifications.
  • At least ten years of experience in a senior leadership role in a field related to our sector, with a focus on operational management and service delivery.
  • Significant experience in leading and managing organisational change, with a track record of successfully guiding teams through periods of transformation.
  • Demonstrated success in building and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships, externally with leaders in government, communities, and internally across Executive team through to Board level
