SNAICC – National Voice for Our Children is growing quickly and continues to expand its policy team as it takes on many exciting systemic advocacy and research projects that will improve the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families.

The Position:

The Policy & Secretariat Lead – Our Booris Our Way will support children’s policy outcomes by leading the team responsible for secretariat functions for the Our Booris Our Way Implementation Oversight Committee.

The position will lead the Secretariat team to support the Committee through providing high quality policy, operational and administrative support to understand and provide advice to the ACT Government on implementing the recommendations from the Our Booris Our Way Review.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has demonstrated capability to work effectively to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders to progress policy outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
  • Has previous experience in policy development, social research and/or advocacy
  • Has strong writing skills, including developing reports, submissions and papers, and has demonstrated capacity to research, analyse, understand and write concisely about complex social policy issues
  • Has previous experience in management, policy development, social research and/or advocacy
  • Has strong project management skills including the ability to work collaboratively with project stakeholders, develop and implement project work plans and meet deadlines.
  • Is a great analytical thinker, and a leader who can connect the dots and build a strong evidence base for policy and advocacy.

Established in 1981, SNAICC – National Voice for our Children is the national non-government peak body for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children. SNAICC’s vision is that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people and families are protected, our communities determine their own futures, and our cultural identity is valued. We work to amplify the voice of community and the sector for the fulfilment of the rights of our children.

SNAICC plays a key role in the following areas:

  • Research and policy development, with high-level leadership, policy and sector representation
  • Training and resource design, development and delivery including topics such as early childhood development, partnerships, family support, trauma, and cultural competency
  • Support for sector development, membership, and networking
