Sowilo Community High School invites applications from Registered Clinical Psychologists to work with our students in years 7-12. Applications would also be accepted from Clinical Registrars with suitable skills and experience.

This position will commence immediately with terms being negotiable.

As a small independent, not-for-profit non-government CARE (Curriculum and Re-engagement) school, we aim to prepare young people for their life journey, empowering them to become creative, responsible adults who are able to make a positive contribution to their community.

Your Role

You will carry out psychological assessments to appraise/diagnose cognitive, emotional and behavioural functioning, i.e. interviews, behavioural observations, psychometric and psycho-diagnostic assessments in accordance with the Australian Psychological Society guidelines, with the appropriate reporting of acquired information to be in line with the inclusive education process. Other such duties will include short term interventions, appropriate referral of students to relevant agencies, consultation and support to school staff and parents/guardians of students, liaison with external supports including Mental Health Services and private health professionals and crisis support where necessary.

Essential Criteria

  • Masters Degree in Psychology (Clinical)
  • Registration with AHPRA as a psychologist, with endorsement as a clinical psychologist or clinical psychology registrar
  • The capacity to follow direction from management
  • The capacity to work both independently and within a team of education consultants
  • Experience working with young people at-risk or disengaged young people
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Working knowledge of the Disability Discrimination Act, Disability Standards in Education and other policy and legislation relevant to students with disabilities in education settings
  • Current Working with Children Check
  • Current Drivers’ License
  • Current Police Clearance

Desirable Criteria

  • Membership of the APS College of Clinical Psychologists
  • Extensive experience in clinical psychological assessment, therapy and interview techniques with children and adolescents
  • Previous experience in an education setting
  • Experience working with children and their families where there are child protection concerns
  • Demonstrated ability to provide intervention for children affected by abuse and trauma
