ABOUT US
Formed in 1983, South Port Community Housing Group (SPCHG) creates and manages affordable rental housing options in the City of Port Phillip and the City of Stonington for single adults and young people who have faced homelessness and social exclusion. We work exclusively with people who are most in need of an affordable, supportive place to live and create opportunities to participate in the local community.
The organisation’s Youth Housing Support Program is funded by State and Federal funding via the Specialist Homelessness Services (SHS) of the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing.
The program’s primary role is to provide case management support, which may include counselling, crisis resolution, personal care, life and living skills, information, advice and referrals for young people experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a confident and empathetic individual with a strong commitment for social justice and addressing disadvantage to lead our program for a 9 month maternity leave backfill.
You will:
- Provide oversight for ensuring our program meets funding and reporting requirements as well as regular case-management support for a caseload of 10-12 clients;
- Lead a small team consisting of yourself and two part-time Youth Housing Support Workers
- Assist clients to identify their own goals and work with them within the context and boundaries of case management, with the aim of achieving independent living and long term housing
- Advocate on behalf of clients when necessary on matters such as income security, employment, education, health, and housing
- Promote and facilitate where possible maintenance of links with family members and other support networks
- Assist clients with developing links with local community services
- Assist clients in the transition to independent housing
- Protect confidentiality, integrity, user rights and access to information for all clients in line with organisational policies and relevant legislation.
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
Essential:
- Qualifications in Social Work, Youth Work, Community Development or similar.
- Training or background in Housing and homelessness field including experience with Specialist Homelessness Information Platform (SHIP) reporting data base.
- Demonstrated capacity to communicate effectively and advocate on behalf of young people based on their presenting needs.
- Knowledge and experience in case management practices and principles.
- Demonstrated capacity to work effectively as part of multi-service team as well as high levels of initiative.
- Drivers’ license and Working with Children Check (if not already obtained, a Working with Children Check must be obtained immediately upon commencement of employment)
- Willingness to undergo a National Police Records check.
Desired:
- Connection and/or knowledge of the local community in which SPCHG works.
- Experience working with complex and vulnerable clients.
- Experience working within the housing and homelessness sector.
