SMART Recovery Australia is a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee and a registered charity with the Australian Charities and not-for-profits Commission (ACNC)

SMART Recovery Australia provides evidence based tools to support individuals and their families and friends to manage behaviours of concern and improve their wellbeing. Our mission is to build a supportive community where people can develop the skills and confidence to manage their addictive behaviours and lead fulfilling lives.

SMART Recovery Australia delivers 416 meetings nationally in partnership with over 80 member organisations. SMART Recovery trains over 500 facilitators yearly to SMART recovery meetings in their community. SMART Recovery Australia is a proud founding affiliate of SMART Recovery International which has successfully grown SMART recovery to 36 countries globally.

Our Vision

SMART Recovery is the first choice in mutual support for all. We envision a world where individuals with addictive behaviours are supported by a compassionate community, have access to effective recovery tools, and can build strong, resilient lives. We strive to provide equitable access to recovery programs for all Australians, particularly those from marginalised communities.

Role Overview

As a Board Member, your expertise will play a pivotal role in guiding the strategic direction of SMART Recovery Australia.

Responsibilities:

  • Actively participate in bi-monthly Board meetings
  • Participate in at least one subcommittee of the Board (e.g. Audit and Risk)
  • Provide professional insights to help shape SMART Recovery programs and initiatives as required
  • Contribute to strategic planning and organisational development as required
  • Assist in ensuring the organisation’s financial health and legal compliance
  • Support the development and implementation of technology solutions to enhance service delivery

Requirements:

  • Expertise in our sector, accounting, legal, or technology
  • Passion for supporting individuals in recovery and promoting mental health
  • Previous experience in governance or community leadership is desirable but not essential
  • Commitment to attending bi-monthly Board meetings and contributing to discussions and decision-making processes
