Role Purpose

The Yarn SMART National Trainer and Facilitator is responsible for developing and delivering the Yarn our Way Heal Your Way SMART Program. This role will be instrumental in training Yarn SMART Facilitators to run meetings, develop partnerships with community controlled organisations and deliver Yarn SMART Meetings. You will be a valuable member of the SMART Recovery Australia Training team working with our Aboriginal Action Group to strengthen the delivery of Yarn SMART. You will support the Yarn SMART Coordinator and liaise with Trainers to ensure quality service delivery. You will create a community of practice amongst trained facilitators and scale Yarn SMART nationally.

  • Key internal relationships Yarn SMART Coordinator, National Innovative Program Manager and Trainer, National Membership and Engagement Manager and Trainer, Customer Experience Manager, Customer Experience Coordinator and CEO

  • Key external relationships include Yarn SMART facilitators, Aboriginal community controlled organisations and SMART Recovery Member Organisations.

National in scope with work from home supported.

Main responsibilities

  • Program Development: Spearhead the ongoing development of the Yarn our Way Heal Your Way SMART Program, ensuring it aligns with the organisation's objectives and community needs.
  • Training and Facilitation: Conduct comprehensive training sessions for Yarn SMART Facilitators, equipping them with the necessary skills to lead meetings effectively and cultivate partnerships with community-controlled organisations.
  • Partnership Development: Foster and maintain relationships with community-controlled organisations, establishing strategic partnerships that enhance the impact and reach of the Yarn SMART Program.
  • Facilitator Support : Deliver a minimum of one Facilitator Support session per month for trained facilitators to be supported to run a Yarn SMART meeting
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the Aboriginal Action Group to incorporate cultural insights and sensitivity into the training and facilitation processes, ensuring the program is culturally responsive.

This is an identified position only open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians.

  • Facilitation Skills: Strong facilitation skills, with the ability to create an inclusive and participatory environment during meetings and training sessions.
  • Cultural Competence: Understanding and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, with the ability to integrate cultural insights into program development and delivery.
  • Team Collaboration: Ability to work collaboratively within the SMART Recovery Australia Training team and contribute to a positive and supportive team culture.

  • Having personal lived experience with addiction is desirable, as it can provide valuable insights and empathy that enhance the ability to connect with individuals seeking support through the Yarn SMART program.

  • Have awareness of the alcohol and other drugs, addictions and mental health fields
