VICTORIAN INDIGENOUS RESEARCH CENTRE (VIRC)

The Victorian Indigenous Research Centre (VIRC), an initiative at State library Victoria, works to provide a culturally appropriate space for Victoria's indigenous community to access and connect with cultural heritage collections and family history.

This role is designated for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.

The filling of this position is intended to constitute a special measure under section 8(1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth), s 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 (Vic) and s 27 of the Discrimination Act 1991 (ACT).

About the opportunity

The Victorian Indigenous Research Centre is looking for a dedicated individual who is passionate about providing culturally appropriate spaces for and services to Victoria's Indigenous population and who are enthusiastic about working with cultural heritage collections and amplifying Indigenous voices.

The Victorian Indigenous Research Centre (VIRC), an initiative at State library Victoria, works to provide a culturally appropriate space for Victoria's indigenous community to access and connect with cultural heritage collections and family history. This is a significant opportunity for candidates with collaborative and creative mindsets who are looking for positions that allow them to shape their roles as they go.

As the VIRC Coordinator Community Connection (pay rate at VPS 4.1), you will be responsible for developing and coordinating the delivery of programs, projects, initiatives and services that ensure the Victorian Aboriginal community is aware of and can participate in the VIRC's activities. You will also contribute to the strengthening and management of relationships with the Indigenous Victorian Aboriginal community. This role is the perfect opportunity for someone who thrives on connecting with others, and who is well versed in collaborative and consultative development of engagement programs for a wide range of Indigenous stakeholders, including individuals, groups and community organisations.
