Residential Children's Supervisor

STEWART HOUSE
  • Northern Beaches, Sydney
  • Permanent Full time - Salary
  • 12 Weeks Annual Leave a Year

About us

Each year 1,600 public school children in need come to Stewart House from many parts of NSW and the ACT. During their stay, children are provided with optometric, dental and medical treatment as well as emotional support. This is balanced with health and educational programs and out of school activities to boost their self-esteem and promote a healthier lifestyle. Stewart House was established in 1931 following the Great Depression when there was a great need and lack of services available to address obvious health issues with school children. 91 years later it still addresses these same needs including mental health services in more recent times. We welcome up to 84 children every fortnight to our site for a 12 day stay.

About the role

Stewart House is seeking a skilled children’s Supervisor, within the Residential Care Team, working primarily with children (on the boys dormitory) aged 7-14 years after and before school, overnight and across weekends inside the NSW public education school terms. Supervisors are responsible for assisting children with self-care, meals, sleeping and enjoying a variety of excursions and activities. Supervisors need to care for up to 14 children at any one time so experience with children is necessary.

Private, in-dormitory overnight accommodation is provided while on duty.

Working Hours

You must be able to work every second weekend (combination of days and nights) during NSW school terms. Weekday shifts start at 3.15pm, include an overnight stay/sleep, and finish at 9.15am the following morning. You will be rostered on for 72hrs per fortnight during the NSW school terms. Rosters change each term. All NSW school holidays are annual leave and there is no annual leave outside of these times. You will also access Reflective Practice sessions each fortnight to support your growth and wellbeing in your role.

The successful applicant must have:

  • Demonstrated experience working with groups of children and/or adolescents
  • Proven ability to care for and assist children in out-of-home settings
