St John has been delivering first aid and community medical support services to the NSW community for over 130 years. The scope of these services has grown to include:

  • First aid training, including specialist courses for mental health, high risk work sites, workplaces, and free first aid training to primary school children
  • Event health services, keeping people safe at events right across NSW, ranging from small local gatherings to large scale events
  • Equipping individuals, families and workplaces with high quality first aid products and services
  • Working alongside emergency services organisations in times of need and disasters
  • Workplace health services such as contracted paramedic services and temperature testing  

About the Role

The Emergency Management Lead is a Volunteer role responsible for leading a team to develop and enhance the Emergency Management capability for St John Ambulance Australia (NSW).

Reporting to, and assisting, the Deputy Commissioner, the Emergency Management Lead represents St John NSW as a senior executive in the wider community and will be required to establish and cultivate effective relationships with partner organisations, community leaders, and other key stakeholders/organisations.

 You will be responsible for:

  • Developing and supporting an Emergency Management Strategy for St John NSW
  • Developing and maintaining links to key emergency services in NSW, including Police, Fire and Ambulance at a leadership and operational level
  • Developing and maintaining engagement strategies with the service delivery units of St John around emergency preparedness
  • Developing and maintaining governance models around Emergency Management
  • Providing and seeking input from the broader advisory team on policy and position issues which relate to Emergency Management

Our Ideal Candidate:

  • Demonstrated experience in strategy development and delivery that improve organisational outcomes for the community
  • Experience working with Government and other Emergency Service Groups
  • Experience or Training in Emergency Management and Capability Development
  • St John Volunteer knowledge and experience in leadership positions is desirable
  • Proven experience in leading, motivating and developing teams and staff/ volunteer members
  • Ability to deliver effective written and oral communication which includes dealing with the media, community relations and diverse community organisations.
  • Tertiary qualifications preferred
  • Holds a current NSW Working with Children Check and national police check for volunteer clearance.
