Stop Live Exports

Stop Live Exports (SLE) is committed to ending the export of live animals from Australia. The campaign began in the mid-nineties and is coordinated by a volunteer committee which oversees the strategic direction of the organisation, with the support of part time contractors to help achieve the organisation’s goals.

The Labor Government has introduced a ban on live sheep export from May 2028, but we still have work to do to ensure this ban remains in place following the outcome of the next Federal election. This is an exciting, unprecedented time!

The role

As President, you will play a pivotal role in guiding our organisation towards achieving its mission in ending live animal exports. You will work collaboratively with our committee, staff, and volunteers to foster a positive and inclusive environment. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a meaningful impact while developing your leadership skills.

In the role, the President should:

• be well informed of all organisation activities and able to provide oversight.
• be a person who can develop good relationships internally and externally.
• be forward thinking and committed to meeting the overall goals of the committee.
• have a good working knowledge of the committee constitution, rules and duties of office bearers.

Specific duties include but are not limited to:

• Chair committee meetings ensuring that they are run efficiently and effectively
• Regularly focus the committee's attention on matters of governance that relate to its own structure, role and relationship
• Ensure we have the necessary skills on the committee and that a succession plan is in place to help find new committee members when required
• Ensure goals and relevant strategic and business plans are developed in order to achieve the goals of the committee
• Assist in the development of partnerships with other boards and organisations that are relevant to the goals of the committee
