Youth Outreach Team Leader - Geraldton

As Team Leader of our Youth Outreach Service, you will work holistically to support at-risk Aboriginal youth within the City of Greater Geraldton.

As an employee of an Aboriginal community controlled organisation, you will have the opportunity to engage in culturally specific youth work, aimed at providing practical assistance and regular enrichment activities to vulnerable youth.

This role will also allow you to build skills in supervision and mentorship as you will oversee the scheduling and rostering of Outreach Workers to host group activities as well as targeted engagement.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

In collaboration with youth participants and Youth Outreach Coordinator, you will:

  • Proactively support them and encourage their engagement and participation in activities;
  • Coordinate safe transportation to and from activities using the business vehicles and ensuring at least two staff are present during transportation;
  • Coordinate catering to ensure the provision of a fresh meal during each outreach activity;
  • Ensure consistent service provision through the coordinate and administering staff timesheets and scheduling of Outreach activities and sessions;
  • Facilitate training and mentoring Outreach Officers as reasonably directed by the Program Coordinator.
  • Where appropriate, liaise with key stakeholders such as Youth Justice, police or other services to achieve positive outcomes for youth participants by addressing needs.

ELIGABILITY

This position is subject to a candidate obtaining:

  • A Western Australian Working With Children (WWC) Check; and
  • A National Police Certificate.

Experience in community services, youth work or similar roles is preferred but not essential.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

Desirable candidates will have:

  • A deep understanding of Aboriginal family structures, kinship and protocols and an ability to seek and provide cultural perspectives and insights to others within and outside of the organisation.
  • The ability to work in a compassionate, regulated and reliable way with young people who may experience intense stress, trauma, loss, and dysregulation.
  • Capacity and willingness to maintain professional boundaries, ethical practice and confidentiality.
  • Humility and a desire to continually learn and grow.
