ABOUT THE ROLE & THE PROGRAM

Strive Community Care provides therapeutic home environments for children and young people with histories of complex trauma, abuse and neglect.

Strive Community Care utilises a strong Therapeutic Framework and unique CREATE Model of Care with a focus on establishing holistic safety. Children and young people are provided with a sense of family, support to heal, opportunity to positively connect with others, and rebuild their lives.

We are now looking for Casual Therapeutic Care Workers to play a key role in supporting children and young persons in their healing journey through providing care in therapeutic homes. Therapeutic Care Workers also mentor children and young persons in OOHC through the Strive Mentoring Program.

These positions are required to work across 24/7 rotating rostered shifts, including sleepovers, weekends and public holidays.

Duties of the successful applicant include:

  • Build and promote a positive and caring environment that supports the children/young people residing in our homes.
  • Form and maintain professional, nurturing relationships with children and young people by building trust through visible interest and active engagement
  • Maintain safety through effectively implementing Behaviour Support Plans and Individual Crisis Management Plans.
  • Work with young people in a manner informed by attachment and trauma-informed care in line with our unique CREATE Model of Care.
  • Ensure all essential needs are met for the young person within the home such as providing a balanced diet, prompts with hygiene, support for school engagement, and creating positive life experiences.
  • Promote independent living skills including assistance with cooking, meal planning, budgeting, shopping, and maintaining a house and other daily living requirements.
  • Demonstrate an empathic understanding of complex trauma, incorporating this understanding into everyday interactions, as well as responding to pain-based behaviour in a sensitive and non-punitive way.
  • Mentor and coach children/young people to assist them to achieve their goals through the Strive Mentoring Program.
  • Act as an appropriate adult role model, seeking to engage young people in purposeful activities aimed at developing life skills and self-worth
  • Assist and support children/young people to develop links and build their capacity to be part of their community.

ABOUT YOU

The successful applicant/s will require the following Qualifications and Experience:

  • Completed, or working towards a minimum Certificate IV qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g. Youth Work, Social Work, Social Science, Counselling) is essential
  • Current HLTAID003 Provide First Aid Certificate or equivalent is essential.
  • Valid unrestricted Australian drivers licence
  • Experience in working with young people with complex trauma is essential.
  • Experience in developing case plans/safety plans/behaviour support plans, case noting and report writing is desirable.
