About the role

Reporting to the Clinical Services Manager, the critical role of Intake Officer ensures clients are appropriately assessed, triaged and connected with appropriate services based on their needs.

Key responsibilities:

  • Serve as the first point of contact for referrers and potential clients, providing a welcoming and culturally sensitive intake experience.
  • Conduct thorough intake interviews and assessments to identify the unique needs and risks of clients, facilitating appropriate support.
  • Efficiently manage referrals and maintain a structured waiting list for the Program to Assist Survivors of Torture and Trauma (PASTT).
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date client records and document assessment results, adhering to agency standards and contractual requirements.
  • Foster relationships with external stakeholders to ensure effective communication and clear referral pathways, adapting to the evolving needs of clients and the organisation.
  • Coordinate and lead triage and allocation meetings.

Qualifications/experience:

  • Tertiary qualifications in social work, psychology or a related health or social science discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Understanding and sensitivity in the provision of support to people from a wide range of cultural and social backgrounds including people who do not speak English.
  • Well-developed knowledge and understanding of refugee experiences and the impacts of trauma.
  • Demonstrated experience in computer literacy and managing client information systems, maintaining accurate documentation and data collection.
  • Previous experience in conducting psycho-social assessments and risk assessment (e.g., risk of suicide). (desirable)

Additional requirements:

  • Experience working within a culturally diverse setting.
  • Knowledge of the refugee/human rights sector or other community service areas and/or experience in a not-for-profit environment.
