Your Role 

As a Child and Young Persons Case Worker, you will provide direct services to children and young people living in a refuge or transitional housing, who have experienced domestic and family violence (DFV). In this rewarding role you will be offering trauma-informed care that prioritises the safety, well-being, and independence of children and young people.

Your Responsibility

  • Develop and implement case plans to ensure the safety and well-being of children and young people.
  • Conduct risk assessments and facilitate one-on-one or group sessions with families.
  • Support children, young people, and their families in connecting with education, culture, community, and other services.
  • Collaborate with external services to provide holistic, wrap-around support.
  • Provide specialist guidance to staff, enhancing service delivery for children and young people.
  • Manage brokerage in line with organisational procedures.
  • Deliver education programs for children, young people, and families.

You Will Need

  • The St Vincent de Paul Society considers being a woman is a genuine occupational qualification for this position under section 31 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW)
  • Diploma or degree in Community Services or related field.
  • Experience supporting women & children, preferably in a crisis setting.
  • Knowledge of the Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998.
  • In depth understanding of DFV  & strong knowledge of local community support services for homelessness and DFV.
  • Passionate about improving outcomes for children, young people, and families.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, particularly in crisis situations.
  • Strong organisational, time management, Computer Literacy and administrative skills.
  • Culturally responsive, with experience supporting Aboriginal and CALD families.
  • Willingness to deliver education programs to children and their families.
  • Compliance with a valid NSW Driver’s License, Working With Children Check, and National Criminal History Check.
