Your Role 

As the Vinnies Vans Support Coordinator you drive and deliver against project outcomes to lift the impact and effectiveness of the Vinnies Vans and other “pop up” hubs and community spaces as needed. The role will lead on developing referral pathways for vulnerable members of the community who are either homeless/at risk of homelessness, as well as training Vinnies Vans volunteers to provide community support and use those referral pathways. 

Your Responsibility

  • Work within the Society’s Person-Centred policy and framework to provide support that meets clients identified needs. Work within a trauma informed framework, respecting the dignity of the client.
  • Build relationships with First Nation’s organisations to improve service outcomes, develop partnership and/or opportunities.
  • Work collaboratively with the Vinnies Vans volunteers and staff to support clients who access the vinnies van.
  • Contribute to the successful implementation of the Strategic Plan within their team.
  • Contribute to a safe working environment for staff, members and volunteers by implementing the Society’s workplace health and safety practices. Including effective risk management procedures to ensure compliance with legal, employment and governance requirements.
  • Engage with persons sleeping rough and/or those people in danger of becoming homeless.
  • Refer clients to appropriate internal Vinnies services and external services to meet there needs and support goals.

You Will Need 

  • Relevant tertiary qualification/s in social sciences, education, social work, psychology, welfare, health studies or related area or currently undertaking tertiary study, in welfare or related field or relevant experience in social services industry.
  • Previous experience providing support to marginalised and vulnerable people support to homeless persons.
  • Previous experience working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Peoples and communities
  • Demonstrated knowledge of issues relating to homelessness including but not limited to family breakdown, mental illness, drug, alcohol and gambling addictions.
  • Demonstrated awareness of appropriate local community support services for homeless clients, including government agencies, First Nations services and NGOs, and the capacity to build and maintain strong relationships with such service providers.
