  • Status: Part time. 0.5 FTE
  • A 6 month probationary period applies.
  • Remuneration: $75,000 per annum part time equivalent, depending on experience and qualifications (this includes an all incidences allowance to cover overtime worked ) + super
  • Primary hours: Flexible throughout Monday-Friday during business hours plus reasonable overtime including frequently during evenings and occasionally on weekends

Greens MP Sue Higginson is seeking an experienced Communications, Digital Content and Administration professional for a position in a small dynamic and dedicated team.

Applicants will be responsible for office management and administration as well as driving digital and internal communication strategies to maximise visibility and engagement with Sue’s work.

This is a unique opportunity to be in a leading team that is challenging the status quo of politics in NSW and takes on every challenge big and small. You’ll be working in a fast paced and dynamic environment that is highly responsive to the news of the day while also achieving long-term reform oriented goals.

You will be responsible for communicating to a wide range of audiences across Sue’s portfolios. Ideal candidates will have experience working in a fast-paced environment with significant experience in communications and digital platforms in order to tell powerful narratives and achieve meaningful outcomes across a broad range of issues. The role focuses on generating campaign communications, production and management of social media content, including video and digital engagement across Sue’s portfolios and office administration.

You will set targets and drive outcomes in collaboration with the team and with a high degree of autonomy while directly reporting to Sue on campaigns and materials. Sue needs you to be ready to hit the ground running, adapt quickly to changing circumstances and to be outcomes oriented.

Sue’s journey started in the old-growth forests of North East NSW as a frontline activist and her passion for protecting our precious native forests is just as strong today. She is driven by environmental and social justice.

Sue is in the NSW Parliament to drive real action on climate change, get First Nations justice, end logging our public native forests and the destruction of nature, reform the planning system, get better food and agricultural systems, challenge the economic system’s ruthless pursuit of profits over people and defend our right to protest.

As the former CEO and Principal Solicitor of the Environmental Defenders Office, Sue was responsible for challenging governments on their poor decisions, corporations for their exploiting activities and defending activists who have been caught by the creeping attacks on the democratic right to protest.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead Sue’s communications across email, social media, digital advertising and web content
  • Develop, plan and execute engaging, timely and authentic content across social media platforms
  • Connect with new audiences and grow our supporter base through digital and traditional media and through issues based campaigning
  • Develop campaign materials including flyers, stickers and posters
  • Drive social media and list growth, including acquisition and reach
  • Craft compelling copy that mobilises Sue’s audience to take action and engage in core campaigns
  • Plan and execute communication strategies for campaigns
  • Engage with stakeholders to develop and execute campaigns and communications
  • Office administration including diary, email and website management
  • Write and produce reports including analytics, and communicate proactively with the team
  • Other tasks as required.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential

  • Experience in communications and social media management, preferably within a political or not-for-profit context,
  • Excellent writing and editing skills with the ability to distil complex issues into easily understood messaging in a way that inspires people to take action
  • Demonstrated ability to create engaging and effective content for a wide range of audiences on multiple platforms including Instagram, Facebook, and X
  • Demonstrated filming and video editing skills for social media, using the Adobe Creative Suite, Capcut, TikTok and Instagram Reels
  • Demonstrated graphic design skills in either Canva, Indesign, Adobe suite or other similar software with a good eye for design
  • Demonstrated experience using Nation Builder or similar CRM
  • High attention to detail with demonstrated ability to create and lead systems management tools
  • Possess a strong understanding of the importance of discretion and confidentiality in dealing with sensitive information and competing interests
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, and ability to work as part of a collaborative team and manage competing priorities under tight deadlines in a dynamic environment
  • Commitment to the Greens' values and principles, with a passion for environmental and social justice, peace and non-violence and grassroots democracy

Desirable

  • Experience dealing with the media, including developing and pitching stories to journalists.
  • Research, policy or political background in Sue’s portfolios
  • Media monitoring and narrative mapping experience
