Driven by a passion to achieve climate justice, The Sunrise Project is a team of experienced changemakers with a mission to scale social movements to drive the global transition beyond fossil fuels. With programs and staff in Australia, and affiliated programs and staff in Europe, and the US, we have developed a unique model of grant making and campaigning that supports networks of organisations to drive powerful change towards our mission.
We have a dynamic and nimble organisational culture and we’re serious about supporting our people to thrive. We move fast and lean into the urgency of the climate challenge.
We believe that a diversity of experiences and perspectives will help us build stronger strategies, teams and movements. We strongly encourage First Nations people, people of colour, people living outside of cities, and people living with a disability to apply. We are continually working on becoming a better workplace for everyone. You can read our commitment to this work here.
Your Head
You’re a creative and strategic thinker with an unstoppable hunger for climate justice. You’ve got a track record of identifying, guiding and implementing effective change-making interventions. You know how to structure a series of tactics towards a shared goal that results in real-world outcomes. You’re constantly working to improve your understanding of how the decisions that shape our lives are really made, and how people who care can work together to change those decisions for the better.
Your Heart
You care deeply about social justice, while understanding the value of building effective working relationships with people from all walks of life and points of view. You are passionate about transforming Australia from climate wrecker to a global leader in clean energy and climate solutions. Your thirst for creating change leads to bringing others on the journey with you. You are impatient with the slow pace of progress on climate, and you bring an open mind, level head, and creative energy for changing it. You’re happy to take direction when asked or to step up and take responsibility when the circumstances demand it. You enjoy fast-paced work, and aren’t afraid to change your work plan at short notice to seize a new opportunity.
Your Hands
You are quick to translate complex information into clear and concise communications, whether that’s an email to movement allies, a press release, a post, or a slide deck explaining a new strategy. You understand relationship dynamics and are good at building trust-based relationships fast. You’re a skilled project manager who excels at organising yourself and others, and can apply those skills to everything from a one-off event to a 12-month collaboration between multiple organisations. You have strong facilitation skills, with a knack for drawing the best ideas from a diverse group of people, and spotting opportunities for people and organisations to collaborate to maximise their impact.
You will be responsible for helping speed the renewables boom and build clean jobs and new opportunities powered by renewable energy. Through big-picture planning, strategy design and rapid-response interventions you will be responsible for providing enabling support to key allies and stakeholders working on the shift from fossil fuels to clean energy in Australia. Your role will be rich in opportunities to develop as a campaigner - with a few key projects of your own, along with roles assisting other team members to deliver priority campaign interventions.
You will convene people and organisations within the Energy Transformation Network and equip allies and stakeholders with the right level of up-to-date information about the status of the movement and opportunities to act. Your brilliant people and organising skills will provide a mutual sharing and learning environment for network members to strengthen each other.

Proven ability to develop and articulate strategies that support campaign goals and objectives;
Excellent interpersonal, written and visual communications skills;
