Remote / Work from Home
Driven by a passion to solve the climate crisis, The Sunrise Project is a team of experienced change-makers, researchers and communications professionals with a mission to scale social movements to drive the global transition beyond fossil fuels. With programs and personnel in Australia, Europe, and the US, we have developed a unique model of grantmaking and campaigning that supports networks of organisations to drive powerful change towards our mission.
We have a dynamic and nimble organisational culture and we’re serious about supporting our people to thrive. We’re committed to building justice and equity into our organisation as well as through our work in the world. We move fast and are growing rapidly as we lean into the urgency of the climate challenge.
We have a unique opportunity for a lawyer to support the delivery of a number of key compliance and risk management projects for The Sunrise Project as it scales its structures and operations over the next 6 months. You’ll create plans, policies, templates and training that help us scale our mission effectively and manage compliance in the global locations where we are operating.
You’ll need to be solutions-focused, flexible, a problem-solver and super-organised. Working with our General Counsel and Paralegal you will be supported to deliver a range of priority project-based tasks, so developing a deep understanding of the context we’re operating quickly is going to make a big difference.
You’ll have worked as a practicing lawyer in commercial and corporate law. You will also have spent time working or volunteering for a charity or not-for-profit, ideally as an in-house advisor. You can draft a great plain-language contract, wrap your head around collaborative ways of working at the global level, and get up to speed quickly on a range of scaling-related topics. You will also be interested in learning and development, and up for co-delivering information awareness raising and training sessions to help skill up our workforce and networks.
In our commitment to inclusive hiring of the best candidates, we use the Be Applied hiring system to process applications.
The Be Applied system reduces the opportunity for unconscious bias in allowing for anonymous reviews of responses to work sample questions. This means we assess candidates on how well they strategise and communicate on relevant work samples.
When you click on the "Apply Now" link you will be taken to an external site to start your application. You will be required to upload a CV or resume and will be asked several questions that will be related to the role you are applying for. There is no requirement to submit a cover letter.
