The Role:

The Ozanam House Intake Worker is a vital member of our Intake & IAP Team, providing prompt responses to those in need through initial information, assessment, and planning.

This role involves managing the waitlist for crisis accommodation, conducting thorough assessments, determining eligibility and suitability for Ozanam House, assisting with alternative housing options, and making referrals to support services across Melbourne. Our aim is to work collaboratively and client-centred, following the VincentCare Recovery Model (VRM).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct high-quality assessments of housing and support needs for individuals contacting Ozanam House.
  • Assess eligibility and suitability of referrals for Ozanam House.
  • Manage the Ozanam House waitlist and provide interim responses when vacancies are not available.
  • Maintain healthy relationships and be the main contact for all services referring their clients to Ozanam House Crisis Supported Accommodation.
  • Utilise the Housing Establishment Fund (HEF) to provide financial assistance.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of local community agencies and referral requirements.
  • Provide secondary consultations regarding Ozanam House information and referral.
  • Participate in the evaluation of service delivery and outcome monitoring.
  • Engage in professional development and maintain an understanding of relevant policies and regulations.
  • Provide high-quality reports to the Manager of Coordination, Engagement, and Participation.
  • Maintain accurate client records and documentation in line with legislative and policy requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with VincentCare policies, procedures, codes of conduct, and legislative requirements.

Selection Criteria:

Qualifications

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or experience in the delivery of high-quality services to people experiencing homelessness (required)

Experience - Essential

  • Experience working in the homelessness and community services sector.
  • Understanding of high-level assessment and support response for individuals experiencing homelessness.
  • Broad knowledge of support and housing services/providers and specialised services like mental health.

Skills and Personal Attributes:

  • Commitment to a values-based, client-centred approach to service delivery.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed, strengths-based, and person-centred care.
  • Excellent communication and relationship management skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong administrative accuracy and detail, including timely data entry.
