As a South West Community Legal Centre employee, you will be making a real difference every day. This position is well suited to a legal practitioner with experience in family law, domestic and family violence issues, child protection, tenancy and other civil law. The applicant will need to demonstrate an understanding of the cultural, social and economic issues facing people in the South West community.

As a key team member, you will work with other staff members and report to the Principal Solicitor.

You will ideally have experience in most or all of the following areas of law: restraining order matters, family law, criminal injuries compensation, tenancy and other areas of civil law.

Part of a small legal team, you’ll be applying your skills and sharing your knowledge across a diverse range of matters. Reporting directly to our Principal Solicitor, you’ll manage a diverse caseload and be given opportunities to further your own professional development.

There is flexibility to negotiate the hours of this position. It is envisaged that the successful candidate will be employed 3-5 days per week.

This position is based in our Bunbury office, and will involve travel to our nearby Outreach locations or local courts. Flexible work from home arrangements negotiated if the right applicant lives outside this area. All positions at South West Community Legal Centre are subject to ongoing funding.

APPLICANTS WILL HAVE (Criteria):

  • A Bachelor of Laws qualification and hold or be eligible to hold a restricted practising certificate
  • Experience, or a willingness to gain experience, in most or all of the following areas of law: family law, child protection, civil and generalist law, restraining order, tenancy and criminal injuries compensation matters
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated high level written and legal research skills
  • Sound time management skills
  • Ability to meet service delivery quality standards and targets
  • A strong commitment to social justice and access to justice
  • Hold a current, Western Australian Driver's Licence (full or probationary licence)
  • Experience, or a willingness to gain experience, in Shuttle Conferencing or Duty Lawyer Services
