Working as part of the SSU leadership team of professional staff, the Croydon Café Manager is responsible for ensuring all services, activities and facilities associated with the Croydon Campus Cafeteria, the only commercial food outlet operating within Swinburne University’s Croydon campus, remain well-organized, highly-regarded and operationally compliant.

SSU’s Croydon Campus Café delivers a service for all Croydon staff and students, with emphasis on product quality, affordability, healthy options and increasingly function and event catering.

The café has a fully equipped commercial kitchen, with two walk-in cool rooms, a walk-in freezer, a dry store room, two ovens and cook-tops, a grill, three deep fryers, a bain-marie, sandwich preparation fridge, two display fridges, a dishwasher and generous preparation spaces

Key Selection Criteria

Essential:

1. Post-secondary qualification in Hospitality/Commercial Cookery/Management or equivalent
2. Experience as a cook or chef in the successful management of a café or catering service
3. Experience in financial management including annual budgeting and business forecasting
4. Experience in developing food and beverage menu offerings and setting appropriate prices
5. Excellent customer service skills, including experience developing positive professional relationships with a variety of customers and professional stakeholders across all levels
6. Experience in staff recruitment, training and supervision
7. Experience in stock management and supplier relationship management
8. Experience in producing equipment usage policy or training materials
9. IT skills including Microsoft Office, email, internet & MYOB
10. Demonstrated self-drive and initiative, including the ability to work unsupervised
11. Food Safety Supervisor certification
12. First Aid certificate (or willingness to secure a First Aid Certificate)
13. Working with Children Check (or willingness to secure a WWC)
