Are you seeking an exciting new challenge Join our dynamic team at Justice Support Centre, a community legal centre committed to promoting access to justice for individuals disadvantaged by their social and economic circumstances.

We have a emphasis focus on Family Law and Criminal Law, with a focus on Family Dispute Resolution and Domestic/Family Violence.

Position Overview:

The Assistant Principal Solicitor will play a key role in supporting the Principal Solicitor in managing and professionally supervising the legal practice, with a specific focus on Family Law and Criminal Law (Focus Areas).

The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of high-quality legal services, law reform activities, community legal education, and resources.

Key Responsibilities:

Practice Management and Supervision:

  • Develop and implement quality control and practice management strategies in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in overseeing the delivery of high-quality legal services, focusing on the strategic plan's priorities.
  • Manage and professionally supervise the Focus Areas of the practice, including Family Law and Criminal Law.
  • Act as the Principal Solicitor in the absence of the Principal Solicitor.
  • Contribute to human resource functions, including recruitment, orientation, and professional development.

Legal Advice Casework and Representation:

  • Provide high-quality legal advice, advocacy, information, referral, casework, and representation, particularly in the Focus Areas.
  • Stay updated on legal, procedural, and policy developments relevant to the position.

Community Development and Engagement:

  • Participate in planning and delivering community legal education, with a primary focus on the Focus Areas.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of plain language legal information resources.
  • Represent JSC in networks, emphasising the Focus Areas.
  • Stay informed about policy and social issues affecting the communities served by JSC.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with community stakeholders and partners.

Essential Criteria:

  • Current Law Society of NSW unrestricted Practising Certificate.
  • Demonstrated in-depth experience and proficiency in Family Law and Criminal Law.
  • Strong understanding of professional and ethical obligations, risk management, and legal practice management.
  • Minimum eight years of general legal experience, including litigation and advocacy in the Focus Areas.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver timely, effective, and high-quality casework and representation.
  • Ability to work with diverse clients and a commitment to social justice.
  • Criminal and Family Law experience

Desirable:

  • Employment Law experience.
  • Experience in Victims Services Claims.
