SiS is a dedicated Family Violence Prevention Legal Service for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in Tasmania. It is supported by the Tasmanian Aboriginal Legal Service (TALS).

SiS addresses the legal needs and facilitates non-legal wrap around support for victims and survivors of family violence. We seek to empower our clients by providing choice and voice, with self-determination being central to how we design and deliver our service and engage with clients, and communities.

We are seeking an experienced lawyer in Hobart with an understanding of trauma, and excellent people and communication skills. 

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Experience working as an advocate and caseworker in family law, family violence, and child safety matters.
  • Demonstrated experience or willingness to learn how to apply a strong trauma-informed legal practice.
  • Capacity to work closely with other stakeholders and organisations; taking a holistic, victim-centric approach to address client needs and improve legal outcomes.
  • A commitment to and understanding of the social issues faced by members of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in Tasmania and the unique challenges of family violence victim/survivors or an ability to quickly understand this context.
  • A team player, working positively with colleagues and external stakeholders.
  • Strong personal drive, initiative and resilience.

REQUIREMENTS

The successful candidate will need to undergo a National Police Check and apply for a Working with Vulnerable Persons registration. You must also have the right to work in Australia.
