The Torch is a First Nations-led cultural arts organisation making waves in both the arts and justice worlds for over a decade. Working with First Nations people who are incarcerated around Victoria, The Torch focuses on the role of art, culture, and cultural identity in supporting participants to find new pathways beyond the criminal justice system.

Join The Torch and become part of a team of talented First Nations creatives who deliver art and cultural programs to In Prison and In Community participants. The Indigenous Arts Officers support First Nations participants to develop their arts and cultural practice both in prison and after release.

This full-time role requires regular travel to Victorian male prisons and to regional Victoria to visit participants in community, and scheduled travel to our Melbourne metro office. This role may suit someone living in regional Victoria or metro Melbourne.

About you:

  • Ideally you will have a practical understanding of art application techniques (preferably painting)
  • Understand the role of the arts in promoting cultural strengthening and wellbeing
  • Be comfortable working with Indigenous men in a prison environment and making office/home/community visits
  • Have knowledge of Indigenous communities and cultural protocols
  • Be flexible, motivated and driven to achieve community outcomes
  • Have good organisational skills
