Tangentyere Council Aboriginal Corporation (TCAC) is a community controlled Public Benevolent Institution delivering human services and social enterprise activities for the benefit of Aboriginal people from the Alice Springs Town Camps, urban Alice Springs, and Central Australia.

First incorporated in 1979, the organisation was a finalist in the 2016 Reconciliation Australia, Indigenous Governance Awards and is one of the 10 largest Aboriginal Corporations in Australia.

The Opportunity

The Community Centres Division (CCD) provides innovative, unique, place-based programs support Aboriginal children (0-5 years), school age children (6-12 years), youth (12-18 years), families and kin to achieve positive outcomes in community safety, education, and wellbeing.

Town Camp Community Centres function as a multi-purpose family resource. Operating from a strengths-based approach, each Centre aims to improve the health, social, environmental, and economic wellbeing of the community in a way that strengthens and respects culture.

Each Centre provides services and programs for residents and visitors of nearby Town Camps, with particular focus on community safety, school engagement, training and employment opportunities, alcohol and other drug prevention and family and domestic violence.

The Community Centre Coordinators primary responsibility is to work closely with the Community Support Workers, Child and Family Centre Program Service Connector and community members in developing, implementing a wide range of community led programs and services that are tailored to the needs and wishes of the community.

As part of your role, you will be working with children, people with a disability and people who are vulnerable. It is your obligation to always ensure their safety and report any concerns in line with our duty of care obligations. We have zero tolerance when it comes to abuse of any kind and will take disciplinary action, including and up to termination of employment, should we determine that abuse has taken place or there has been a failure to report any suspected or alleged abuse.

Responsibilities

  • Coordination and day-to-day management of the Community Centres, including referrals.
  • Development, delivery, and evaluation of relevant programs, with focus on school attendance, AOD/VSM and community safety.
  • Establish and maintain key strategic relationships and alliances with key stakeholders and service providers both internally and externally.
  • Ensure compliance, monitoring and review of statutory requirements and responsibilities.
  • Provide high level leadership and support to Community Centre Division staff and resources, to achieve organisational, strategic, and operational objectives.
  • Assist with achieving quality management objectives across the organisation.
  • Assist with achieving safeguarding objectives across the organisation.
  • Assist with achieving compliance objectives across the organisation.
  • Other reasonable duties as required.

Qualifications and Selection Criteria

Required:

  • Qualification and a minimum of three years demonstrated experience in Community or International Development and /or relevant discipline.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake complex tasks together with high-level conceptual and analytical skills, working in a cross-cultural context.
  • Thorough knowledge of relevant existing service providers and funding bodies within the Northern Territory.
  • Ability to undertake senior-level negotiations, and to build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders (internal and external).
  • High-level strategic and operational skills in program development, planning, implementation, and management.
  • Strong oral, written communication, and computer application skills.
  • Current First Aid Certificate, or willingness to attain.
  • Current NT Drivers Licence, NT Working with Children (Ochre) Card, satisfactory Police Check, and proof of full (3) vaccination against COVID-19.

Desired:

  • An understanding of Aboriginal culture as well as a broad range of contemporary issues affecting Central Australian Aboriginal people.
