Tangentyere Council Aboriginal Corporation (TCAC) is a community controlled Public Benevolent Institution delivering human services and social enterprise activities for the benefit of Aboriginal people from the Alice Springs Town Camps, urban Alice Springs, and Central Australia.

First incorporated in 1979, the organisation was a finalist in the 2016 Reconciliation Australia, Indigenous Governance Awards and is one of the 10 largest Aboriginal Corporations in Australia.

The Opportunity

Tangentyere Aged & Community Services (TACS) is part of the Family Safety & Social Services Division, which aims to improve the quality of life of Central Australian Aboriginal people and the wider community through providing innovative, responsive, and culturally safe services.

TACS provide CHSP, HCP, NDIS & Chronic Disease home care & centre-based services to an extremely diverse and vulnerable cohort of people, where health is more often secondary to other social determinants. With more than 7 languages spoken and over 100 clients, TACS continues to uphold quality service provision and maintains its strong ties with members of the Alice Springs and wider community.

The Registered Nurse position requires strong clinical leadership, administrative skills, knowledge of normal Ageing and the impact of Chronic Disease on people. This role supports the local community and the promotion and restoration of client health and wellbeing. The position requires the ability to undertake comprehensive clinical assessments, critically analyse findings and collaborate with external stakeholders to provide person-centred supports to clients. In addition, this position will provide support to employees as they assist clients to achieve better health outcomes.

This position can be offered at permanent part time at the request of the applicant and there is also potential for the role to be flexible by virtual means (the applicant may not have to be based in Alice Springs) as determined by the Council.

As part of your role, you will be working with children, people with a disability and people who are vulnerable. It is your obligation to always ensure their safety and report any concerns in line with our duty of care obligations. We have zero tolerance when it comes to abuse of any kind and will take disciplinary action, including and up to termination of employment, should we determine that abuse has taken place or there has been a failure to report any suspected or alleged abuse.

Responsibilities

  • Triage incoming referrals and monitor client intake while ensuring service capacity requirements are maintained.
  • Collaborate with clients, their carer/family, TACS staff and relevant stakeholders to assess and develop holistic and cost-effective care plans that meet both client-need and package funding requirements.
  • Monitor, review and respond to identified client issues and changes.
  • Effective and efficient clinical management, reporting, auditing, and administration.
  • Provide clinical leadership, supervision, and ongoing mentoring.
  • Represent TACS and Tangentyere Council at interagency reference groups and coordination meetings with key stakeholders.
  • Assist with achieving quality management objectives across the organisation.
  • Assist with achieving safeguarding objectives across the organisation.
  • Assist with achieving compliance objectives across the organisation.
  • Other reasonable duties as required.

Qualifications and Selection Criteria

Required:

  • Current registration with AHPRA and 5 or more years’ experience working in the aged care services sector.
  • An understanding of the ageing process and a comprehensive clinical knowledge base, particularly to age related health issues.
  • An understanding of the impacts of Chronic Disease on vulnerable people living in remote areas.
  • Extensive knowledge of both Aged Care & Disability quality standards within programs such as CHSP, HCP, NDIS & ITC-CDCC and how these standards are applied and reflect best practice.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with experience in conducting clinical assessments, critical thinking and comprehensive report writing.
  • Demonstrated experience in undertaking advocacy and support activities for clients with needs of a complex nature.
  • Ability to prioritise and manage workloads according to client needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate and supervise others, instilling a readiness to develop innovative approaches to complex situations.
  • Understanding of and commitment to continuous quality improvement.
  • Current NT Drivers Licence, NT Working with Children (Ochre) Card, satisfactory Police Check, and proof of full (3) vaccination against COVID-19.

Desired:

  • Current First Aid Certificate, or ability and willingness to attain.
  • Experience working in the disability services sector.
  • Working knowledge of Aboriginal Language/s.
  • An understanding of the social justice issues facing Aboriginal People and the role of Tangentyere Council programs in addressing these issues.
