- Regional QLD > Ipswich
Based in Toowoomba with offices in Ipswich, Goondiwindi and Roma, Tasc National (Legal and Social Justice Services) provides a broad range of services including legal advice and advocacy to clients across the Greater Southern Queensland region. Key to our ongoing success are solicitors who are knowledgeable, patient and tenacious, and a culture that is engaging, supportive and driven to provide the best possible experience and outcomes for clients in a values-based framework.
An opportunity exists to join us as a Generalist Solicitor. This role is tasked with making a meaningful impact for clients through the provision of legal advice, casework, education in our community, law reform, regional outreach, mentoring and supervision of junior staff, students and volunteers. As a Generalist Solicitor with TASC, you will advise on a broad range of legal matters including family law and domestic violence, criminal, civil disputes, child protection, and other areas of law as they arise, or are identified as a community need. Provision of Duty Lawyer services at local courts, and representation in Mental Health Tribunal matters is also a part of the role, and training for accreditation will be provided. Some travel between our offices in Toowoomba and Ipswich may be required, and participation in more remote outreach clinics which run throughout the year will include overnight travel.
You will be rewarded with the freedom to structure your practice to best utilise your existing skills and knowledge to deliver meaningful outcomes for clients. At the same time, you can explore other practice areas, develop and manage projects such as advice clinics and programs to raise awareness of TASC in our communities.
The ability to consider your work through the lens of client impact is essential. You will hold or be able to immediately obtain a practicing certificate and be eligible to hold a Positive Notice for Working with Children, and Disability Services (mandatory criminal history screening). A minimum of 2 years PAE is required, as is experience in at least one of the above practice areas, with a keen desire to expand your knowledge base. The role is offered currently at a Level 5 (SCHADS Award) and will be paid at above Award rates, however applicants with experience at a higher level are encouraged to apply, as the offer will match the candidate.
The qualities we seek are innovation, adaptability and compassion in an individual who takes a collaborative approach to problem solving and leads by example. A positive attitude, the ability to value and respect each person for their contributions to the team, professionalism, resilience and a genuine desire to achieve better outcomes for clients facing adversity are highly desirable. The ability to work in a trauma-informed practice framework is essential.
You will be based in Ipswich or Toowoomba, with occasional travel to the other office, and some regional and overnight travel as required.
A Position Description is attached/available on request. Above Award remuneration will be negotiated with the successful applicant. Salary packaging is available, and additional paid leave over the Christmas period is included.
